40th Death Day of Sec. Jesse Robredo

Quarenta Dias kang kagadanan ni Sec. Jesse Robredo
September 27, 2012
Sequence of Activities

On this page you will see updates of the 40th Death Day of Sec. JMR

Every time I see images of Sec. Jesse around the city, there is still a tingling pain in my heart that I still cannot believe that he will not ever come back physically here in Naga. JMR is just but one man who changed a City (Naga) for the better, he is just but one man who tried to change the whole country when he was Secretary of DILG. This man's footsteps, JMR's "tsinelassteps", lead us to the path towards positive change in the government that it was not just a mere dream, but a spark of hope and reality.

Jesse M. Robredo lives in our hearts forever! Proud Akong Naguena! #SalamatJesse

"Dios Mabalos" Jesse Robredo
Performed and Arranged by: Plethora
Composed by Benji Felipe
Produced by: Ubiquitous Music/Ferdie Gomez

Ang kanyang tsinelas
Ang saksi sana
Nang kanyang tinahak
Ang daang malubak
Sa rupok ng suelas
Siya'y nagpakatatag
At naging huwaran
Lingkod na matapat

Ang kanyang tsinelas
Kasamang sumukad
Sa taong mayaman
Maging sa mahirap
Sa mahabang lakad
Tinawalang nangarap
Na tayo'y kabayan
Sa buhay na payak

Dios Mabalos manoy maraming salamat
Pilit mong tinuwid liko naming landas
'Di kayang burahin ni alat ng dagat
Tsinelas mong babad sa mabuting palad

Ang di pa matuto
Sa aral mong lantad
Tsinelasin mo po konsensiyang matigas

Ang kanyang tsinelas
Naabot mo sa gasgas
Na walang sinayang
Sa patak ng oras
Hakbang na kaya
Sa mata ng bukas
Kinayang umakyat
At Dios ang may basbas

Ang kanyang tsinelas
Tuluyang nabutas
Tulad ng buhay niyang maagang nagwakas
Kapwa tao naway magising mamulat
Dakila niyang yapak
Sundan bawat apak

Dios mabalos manoy maraming salamat
Pilit mong tinuwid liko naming landas
Di kayang burahin ni alat ng dagat
Tsinelas mong babad sa mabuting palad

Ang di pa matuto
Sa aral mong lantad
Tsinelasin mo po
Konsensiyang matigas

Dios Mabalos manoy maraming salamat
Dios Mabalos manoy saimong maorag
Dios Mabalos manoy maraming salamat
Dios Mabalos manoy sa dalan mong maorag

Fellow Naguenos in Dubai Pay Tribute to Robredo

This post was lifted from SSC CamSur Thread and originally posted by "Naga Rivers" yesterday, September 2, 2012. This shows how our Sec. Jesse Robredo is well loved by Bicolanos, Filipinos and especially Naguenos wherever we may be. When the news broke about Sec. Jesse's plane crash up until his retrieval period, Naguenos just like Naga Rivers (presently based in Dubai) felt the sadness and grief even during his time of work. The connection made by Sec Jesse to each and every Nagueno is so strong that no distance can ever cut that feeling of grief when he was called upon by God.

A mass was offered by UNC HS Batch 95 based in Dubai and afterwhich they joined a Breakfast for a Cause as their way of tribute to Sec. Jesse. Mabuhay po kamong mga kapwa ta Nagueno, Bicolano, mga kababayan dyan sa UAE!

Actual post is as follows:

"A simple tribute for a Simply Jesse from the UNC High School Batch 95 in UAE - with Larry , Julius, Hubert, Florence, Rose, Myla, Lea , Algin, Kosette Flora Tonga, Pilosopong Tasyo, Dan, Janeth" - John R.

Last Friday, my UNC high school batch
who are residing here in UAE offered a Holy Mass
for the soul of our beloved Sec. Jesse Robredo
at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubai.

At first, we're shy to pose for group pictorial as we might disturb
some church goers... but we never expect that when our fellow
kababayans saw the tarpaulin, they asked us if they can join
the group picture and some are taking photos as their souvenir.

Even this Indian knew about the good things that
Sec. Jesse did in Naga City and as DILG Chief.
The thing that surprised me since he is not a Filipino
and never even visited the Philippines.

That even Julio's queries can be answered by this Indian.

After the Mass, we joined a "Breakfast for a Cause"
which is our way of giving tribute to Sec. Jesse.

And just like in church when we pose for
a group picture, our fellow kababayans pose with us
and took pictures.

This is how popular our Sec. Jesse. Every time they asked us,
"Taga Naga ba kayo?",
we proudly reply that we're Naguenos and that he was our Mayor then.

Dakila: Heroes Day Statement and Tribute to Secretary Jesse Robredo

Heroes Day Statement and Tribute to Secretary Jesse Robredo
Dakila – Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism
28 August 2012

One’s sense of kabayanihan is instinctive. Whenever there is a pressing need for him/her to help the community, one always feels that urge to help, whether in small or big ways. What one does with that urge, however, is what draws the line that separates the bayani from the others.

With many things happening in our country today, many may be called bayani. There is no longer one formula of blood shed and death for one to be considered as such. Helping out one’s neighbor during floods or typhoons, working outside the country far from one’s family, leading the country with good governance, fighting for human rights -- they are all forms of kabayanihan. Choosing the right but more difficult thing over something that is easier and more convenient, giving one’s limbs when only one arm is asked are acts of kabayanihan.

Sec. Jesse Robredo gave himself to public service, stood by his principles amidst every other politician doing otherwise, offered his whole being to his family, his friends, and his people, always thinking first of others and last of himself. The outpour of emotions of the whole country -- from public officials to ordinary citizens -- is more than enough testament to how Sec. Jesse Robredo lived his life -- for the bayan and thus, becoming a bayani.

We are all called to become bayanis and it’s about time we all heed to the call. It is time to live up to the Jesse in all of us, to serve our bayan with sincerity and full of heart. After all, as the saying goes, there are no great things, only small things with great love.

Dakila hopes that the line that separates the bayani from the others shall be erased and deemed irrelevant because when that day comes, there will only be bayanis and no one else.

JMR: A Nagueno for All

For more than a week now, I have been reading and watching a lot of good things about our good Mayor Jesse from different personalities across different mediums. A lot has been said that it led me speechless to write my own.

I have tirelessly waited from the day 1 of his search and rescue operations (SaR). I wanted to post good news every time I woke up during that long period of waiting. But as days passed by, things became heavier and heavier to bear. I have no blood relation to the family of Sec. Jesse, but if you'll be asking every Nagueno, it felt like we were all waiting for a family member to come back home. SaR of TF Kalihim, fishermen and volunteers turned to search and retrieval operations risked their lives for the hopeful hearts of the many.

Sec. Jesse's physical presence for a week even with no life, brought a new life to each and everyone of us. A new life that will challenge each and every Nagueno both politicians and citizens to live up to Sec. Jesse's aspirations and ideals. Every time TV networks, air their news showing Naga City to the whole country, at the back of my mind it will now be a challenge for us Naguenos to be as good as Sec. Jesse. Difficult as it may seem, I know it will be achievable just like how Mayor Jesse believed in Naguenos back then that we can do great things together.

"There is a Robredo in every Nagueno, that there is also in every Bicolano and Fiipino". I am privileged to have grown in a city who taught me how to love my family, my city and eventually my country. My love for Naga City grew bigger as I continue to provide people "Naga Info" through nagacitydeck.com. For me, Naga City will not be only known as a Pilgrim City and the Heart of Bicol but will be a reflection to what and who Jesse M. Robredo is. JMR is a Nagueno for Filipinos and Filipinos for the world.
I am a proud Naguena because of you Sir. Jesse! I will continue serving our fellow Naguenos and Bicolanos in any possible way I can.

Dios Mabalos po! Dai mi po ika malilingawan!

Active Vista Human Rights Film Festival in Naga pays homage to Sec. Robredo

August 22, 2012
Press Release

Active Vista Human Rights Film Festival in Naga pays homage
to Secretary Robredo as staunch defender of human rights

The human rights film festival, Active Vista, traveled to Naga City last August 22 with the screening of the films Bunso by Ditsi Carolino and Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa by Alvin Yapan at the Arupe Hall of the Ateneo de Naga University.

Active Vista Program Director, Kristine Kintana, said, “The screenings of Active Vista today is a tribute to Secretary Robredo who best exemplifies a life dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights.” The former Mayor who led Naga City to social progress implemented programs that provided security of tenure to the squatters of the city and institutionalized structures and mechanisms to allow democratic participation, transparency and accountability in local governance.

“While Active Vista joins the entire nation especially the City of Naga in mourning for the untimely demise of a true public servant, we also pay homage to Secretary Jesse Robredo, whose life has inspired the Filipino people. The screenings of Active Vista today in his hometown is but a fitting tribute to the man whose public service has paved the way for the people of Naga to live a life of dignity.”

Secretary Robredo is a known figure in the social movement, first and foremost, as a model public servant advocating for good governance and as defender of human rights. Among his advocacies include the right of Persons with Disabilities, the right to freedom of information and education. He is considered a reliable ally of the urban poor and marginalized sectors.

Kristine further said, “Active Vista aspires to impart to our young audiences the truth about the human rights situation in our country through cinema. And hopefully, they may be inspired to follow the path that Secretary Robredo has threaded. In his commencement message for Ateneo students in 2003, Secretary Robredo said “It is your contribution that really matters – paying back what you owe the community that nurtured you”.

Active Vista is a human rights film festival organized by the artist collective Dakila – Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism and supported by AusAID, Movies that Matter Netherlands and the Royal Norwegian Embassy. The Naga City screenings is the 6th leg of the 20-city tour of the film festival, which started last July and will end on December 2012.
