Bamboo Rocks Naga!

Naga City - Right in the middle week of the Peñafrancia Festivities, Bamboo rocked the Nagueños signing his OPM hits. It was my first time see and hear him live, the best part?? it felt like I was was listening to the radio. This Bamboo Live in Naga experience definitely validated how good of a coach he can really be in the The Voice Kids. Truly an OPM icon.

Surprised to see @nagacitydeck on the #BambooLiveinNaga led screen as one of the the #Media Sponsors together with the #bicolbloggers another achievement unlocked this year 2015.
Blessed to have NcDeckers who supports my advocacy for #NagaCity and #Bicol.
Keep on supporting NCD for more surprises and giveaways!!

The concert was hosted by DJ Macky Macho of ABS-CBN M.O.R. and Kat De Castro. With only less front acts from local bands, Jade Bongat's special performance and special guest Elha Nympha, the waiting time for Bamboo was not too long and well deserved with the kind of performances they rendered.

We definitely enjoyed the night. The crowd obviously loved Bamboo's performance. Oragon ang musiko ni Bamboo! The local bands who performed also did an amazing job in performing their original songs. Couldn't be more proud of them.

Naga City Mayor John Bongat's only daughter, Jade Bongat, also gave a special number with her verison of Flashlight. No doubt that she can really sing. I bet Mayor John and First Lady Farah are really proud of her.

Elha Nympha, winner of The Voice Kids Season 2 was also here in Naga during the concert night as the special guest of her coach, Coach Bamboo. Thanking the whole production team and Mayor John Bongat, Elha shared with glee that it was her first airplane ride ever. She is indeed a power house with a voice so impressive and spine tingling. Her rendition of "Emotions by Mariah Carey" actually gave me goosebumps as she sang it with high notes perfectly.

The University of the Philippines (UP) Harong has been upholding the values of academic excellence and social relevance in the province of Camarines Sur and the whole Bicol Region as well for 18 years now. As a duly recognized organization of students in UP Diliman coming from the province of Camarines Sur and the cities of Iriga and Naga, UP Harong continues to be an avenue for boosting individual talents, honing interpersonal skills and revitalizing societal linkage through holding a wide array of activities in order to propel change, raise awareness and rev up the development in the region.

On the Activity: Igniting the Engine of Academic and Social Desires:
One of the activities that UP Harong holds which promotes the aforementioned ideals is the Academic Festival (AcadFest, as it is popularly known). For the previous years, the AcadFest catered only to high school students of Camarines Sur and the cities of Iriga and Naga. On its 18th year, the AcadFest 2013 was opened to all high school students of Bicol in order to better achieve its visions for the youth. It will be held at the Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST) along Peñafrancia Avenue, Naga City, and SM City Naga on October 23-26, 2013.

On the Theme: Revving the Ride
This year’s theme for the AcadFest is “Revving the Ride: The Youth Drive for Responsible Tourism towards Sustainable Development”. AcadFest 2013 focuses on the effects of different types of tourism; may it be ecotourism, culinary tourism, religious tourism, cultural tourism, heritage tourism, and many more, in the improvement of the region and the nation as well. The responsibility does not lie solely on the government officials for whom it is commonly directed to. The youth plays a great role in achieving sustainable development through responsible tourism by breaking the apathy within themselves, igniting the fervor to be part of change, starting the will and work for the common good, and revving the ride towards the highly desired ideal society. Moreover, through the events of AcadFest 2013, students may relish their well-thought points of view and rebut amongst themselves their long-prepared arguments.

On the Events: Driving the Vehicles of Responsible Tourism towards Sustainable Development
The students inevitably have their own weaknesses, which they can improve on, and fortes, which they can use to challenge and debate with others' strengths. The choice is in their hands on which vehicle to ride on and drive towards their success. It may be the 18th Tingog nin rason Debate Tournament, 16th Boses kan Jovenes Public Speaking Contest, 12th Harong nin Dunong Quiz Bee, 11th Sural Essay Writing Competition, 10th Gayon Bikolnon Poster Making Contest, 6th Ladawan nin Kabikolan Photojournalism Contest, 4th Istoryang Suanoy Story telling Competition, Gala night, and the newest in the collection, the 1st Heras sa Banwaan Radio Broadcasting Tournament. It must be noted, however, that in any endeavor one takes, he/she must be responsible and prudent while voyaging towards his/her destination.

The journey that has long been waited for towards sustainable development is about to begin. Since each holds different views regarding tourism, each will have a unique path towards their destination. It may be a path taken by many, but then again sometimes, to do what is right you must walk alone. Whichever path it is, the important thing is not to get left behind so pack your ideas up, collect your thoughts, and get prepared for the UP Harong Academic Festival 2013!

David Pomeranz In Naga City

#DavidPomeranzInNagaCity

The firs two days of March for Naga City was star studded. Back to back events were scheduled for March 2, with a benefit concert by David Pomeranz and a live PBA game at the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum.

I was privileged to welcome David Pomeranz at the airport together with the organizers of the benefit concert and Avenue Plaza Hotel staff. AirPhilExpress' plane arrived at around 9:30 am at the Naga Aiport and welcomed Sir David with banner and smiles.

Sir David's arrival at the Avenue Plaza Hotel.

Avenue Plaza Hotel was star studded for two days. APH was also the home of the San Mig PBA Team.

The board room was really spectacular that even Sir David was amazed with the gorgeous space.
David's primary purposes was to help raise fund for the rehabilitation of the original home of our Ina, Our Lady of Penafrancia. It's his first visit here in Naga and he was scheduled to visit the church in the afternoon the same day he arrived. David is not new anymore here in the Philippines since he has been a frequent visitor for almost 27 times for the last 15 years. Imagine the length of time he has spent here in our country, he must have felt the love here and Naga City is just as privileged to have him around.

His interest in maintaining the tradition and beauty of the church  that can serve as inspiration to the people is what is important for him. Imagine the care and concern of Sir David for that "source of inspiration..Ina" for the people of Naga despite the difference in religion. Nakakatabang puso, there's the harmony and love despite the difference.  No wonder, he is blessed with his career for the past 35 years and counting in being a singer and song writer.

Winners of the Raffle

Congrats Ms. Deonalaine Figura @handpaintedsky for winning a gift certificate from CACI
and Ms. Angelica Frondoso for winning a ticket to David's concert.
Thank you for supporting the event.

March 2, 2013 - Concert Night

It was a night of struggle I suppose, as scheduled,we were to arrive at the tent at around 7:15 pm but I was out of luck in finding a good parking space. The whole strip of Magsaysay and a part of the Balatas Road near Avenue Square was in full parking. Even the gasoline stations and sidewalks were used as parking space. And so we arrived around 8 already just a few minutes before the start of the concert. You can just calculate how long I consumed in looking for that parking space. Lol

Opening performance was spectacular by the world class Baao Childrens' Choir (BCC) who recently won 1st place in the 18th International Contest of Habanera Youth 2012 held in Spain.
BCC sang five songs namely, Tuwing Umuulan, Circle of Life, Muntik na Kitang Minahal, Seasons of Love and a song that depicts a sound of a bird in Filipino language.
The BCC is indeed CamSur and Bicol's pride in promoting our culture and homegrown talent.

Sir David has a groovy way of attracting the audience and not to mention he can be a good ventriloquist haha. I, being  among the crowd, felt like it was so nostalgic hearing songs during my childhood years being played during Sundays. Hearing the songs live makes it all the difference. I have never experienced any prom during my high school years, but hey, I heard the songs being used in every prom and it somehow compensates the real JS prom experience. It's different, but still it was a special moment, without the partner to dance with of course.

The songs he sang were a combination of his fellow artists like Barry Manilow and also his original ones:

On This Day
I Learned It All From You
Undying Admiration
(A Song from the Princess and the Frog movie)
(A song from the carpenters)
Trying to Get the Feeling Again
I Still Believe IN You
Crazy Beautiful
I Can Cleary See Now
Got to Believe In Magic
The Old Songs
King and Queen of Hearts
Born For You
After All
What Matters Most

Ms. Anabelle Regalado Borja sang If You Walked Away with Mr. David.

Fr. Andrew Recepcion joined Sir David in singing Got to Believe in Magic

What does Sir David Pomeranz have to say about Naga City?
'The sense of well being' there's the loveliness, the happiness in this city. Naga is a beautiful place

Thank you David!

Meet and greet with David Pomeranz of the premium ticket holders.

This is another wish fulfilled in my bucket list, to watch and hear an international artist perform live and to meet and greet David Pomeranz himself. Thank you to the organizers of the benefit concert, Fr. Andrew and the rest of the staff, Avenue Plaza Hotel and Ms. A for the undying support to Naga City Deck for this very rare opportunity. May you be blessed and more power!
