“ORAGON.” The Urban Dictionary defines it as a “Bicol slang for somebody who is feisty, determined, principled, fighter, unafraid of consequences, and one who stands up for his principles.”

Raymond Doliquez from Sarangani Province
On September 10 at The Tent, Avenue Plaza Hotel in Naga, Camarines Sur, a total of 12 “oragons” will see action in the latest Laban MMA offering. Fresh from its successful staging in Cagayan de Oro, PXC’s developmental league invades Bicol to banner the region’s homegrown mixed martial arts fighters who are expected to live up to the “oragon” moniker by giving their all against equally capable opponents from different parts of the Philippines.

Spearheading the Bicolanos’ battle is CBD MMA gym’s Arlan Faurillo (photo on left) of Naga City, as he goes up against Laban MMA veteran Reymond Doliguez from Sarangani Province and fighting out Submission Sports Philippines. The co-main event is equally as explosive as Legazpi’s Joey Miado of Lions Den MMA clashes with another familiar Laban MMA name in Team Lakay’s Jaybee Ban-eg of Mt. Province.

Two CamSur sons open up hostilities at 7 PM, making his MMA debut is Naga City’s Diego Offemaria from Bicol Athletics-Legazpi Gym, but he will surely have his hands full tackling 22-year-old Danilo Sarmiento Jr. of Naga City and CBD MMA gym who comes in with an impressive 8-0 record. Then it’s the turn of Legazpi City’s Niño Mondejar of Bicol Athletics to grapple with Negros Occidental’s Jessie Salvador of D Elements Real Men Fighters. Taking the next crack is another Legazpi native, Jupiter Lora of Lions Den MMA battling fellow Bicolano, Tabaco City’s Jonathan Noble representing Lipata Fight Club.

Seventeen-year-old Khen Marques of Guerrero/Fighters Den-Naga City looks to add one more victory to his 2-0 amateur record when he takes on also unbeaten Mark Fabriga of Davao City and Safehouse Fighting Academy who’s toting a 4-win streak. Fight #5 features two more Bicolanos, Naga City’s Bryan Ayao of CBD MMA against Tabaco City’s Joven Baclao of Lipata Fight Club. Fight #6 with Jake Baylon from the Guerrero Muay Thai MMA gym against 17-year-old John Lloyd Libuit of Davao City and Safehouse Fighting Academy who comes in with an impressive 4-0 record.

Two very promising amateurs get on the ring next, as Herbert Locre of Daraga Albay and Lions Den MMA matches his 7-1 record with the 8-1 record of GenSan’s Jimboy Panlita representing Submission Sports Philippines. The final appetizer before the main events pits two grizzled warriors in Jason Margallo of Naga City and CBD MMA fighting Cavite’s Crisz Aplicador of Hitman Gym/Biagtan Muay Thai.

MMA fans from the land of the Mayon Volcano and the Bicol Express are surely in for one hot and spicy night, and PXC may very well find the ultimate oragon in this stacked card that could go on to the professional level and bring the region to Philippine MMA prominence.
