A Testament to the 'Little Kitchen Big Taste'

“There is no such thing as free lunch.” Only free sumptuous dinner for four won by my brother at WoodStone Kitchen.

And how was it possible??? Kindly ask Naga City Deck (NCD).

After the Traslacion Procession mass, my siblings, my former professor and her daughter was accompanied by Naga City Deck to WoodStone Kitchen located at Bora Hut Food Temple, Peñafrancia Avenue Basilica Road (CLICK HERE for the latest review last March 2015), Magsaysay Avenue, Naga City. The place was cozy and a little bit rustic, a right place for relaxation and dining, to chat and jam with friends, family and colleagues. Preparing good food really takes a little bit of time and after patiently waiting, foods were served.

Sinigang na Ulo ng Tuna, Buttered Chicken, Pork and Vegetable Medley, Iced Tea and of course hot steamy rice while NCD ordered Sisig and Nachos. …………… What? Waiting for something????

Both my parents cook superb meals and that affected our tastebuds and standards in eating. Well, Chef Ton you made it very clear that WoodStone Kitchen serves one of the best home cooked meals in Naga City I’ve ever tasted.

Sinigang na Ulo ng Tuna makes me giggle with that tangy sour soup, the buttered chicken has that “melts in your mouth” feeling bursting with buttery garlic flavor, you gave justice to the Pork meddling in fresh and crisp vegetables making it a healthy menu and that home brewed Iced Tea was superb that I winked after my lips touched the glass. Pork Sisig was not that oily compared to others, the kick of hot pepper was just right not to make me choke and ask water to drown the spicy taste and the Nachos omgee reminds me of Mexico. That was a night to remember.

Crispy Pinangat? C4 Cake? More about Woodstone Kitchen HERE

Think I’m just bluffing this all? Well why you don’t lead your feet and your stomach to WoodStone Kitchen after you have read this to experience what I have been narrating. Again from my brother, sister and me, a big thanks to Naga City Deck for introducing WoodStone Kitchen and to Chef Ton for preparing that wonderful meal. Next time I’ll try that Seafood Paella. -- by Kookai Sabareza

The Postcard Project in Naga

Have you ever received a postcard? Ahh  postcards! I would automatically link postcards to my younger years back when International Youth Services (IYS) was very popular and yes, I was into "PenPalling" during my elementary years. IYS is a company established in Turku, Finland in 1952 and lasted for 56 years. The company basically maintains a database of young adults aged 10 to 20 years old. Teens who want to have penfriends from other countries are the target customers of IYS. I had many penfriends from many countries and sending and receiving a postcard was a very usual practice back then.

The joy of receiving a postcard or any letter through a snail mail is a complete different experience from receiving a message sent through digital platforms.  In a usual exchange of letters between friends and relatives, every stroke of handwritten message and the waiting time to receive the message makes it more heartfelt.  We are in an era where most of us are preoccupied and fast paced and we now rely heavily on online social networks, online messengers and video calling services like Skype to connect with people. Though we are in the digital age, I find it amusing if not proud that there are still people who are still into sending postcards. But what if you knew people who are the ones making the postcards for a very good cause? Not that's even amazing.

Postcards do not call for urgency, but it does awaken the heart, appreciate more the message and most importantly the sender. So whether if you are here in Naga or just visting, hear this one out. This project will make your visit in Naga more meaningful.

The Postcard Project is a collaboration between thespiralsun.com and Bubble Town Tea House to promote pride of place, creativity and communication.

Pride of Place – The Post Card Project hopes to share postcards of Naga City with friends and family via Philippine Post. There are so many places that we can be proud of, and so many aspects of our culture and heritage that we can share with the rest of the country and the rest of the world.

Creativity – These postcards (and the future postcards) are products of local artists (whether they are professional painters, designers, photographers or graphic artists or beginners giving their creativity some space to grow) here in Bicol.

Communication – The Postcard Project team really appreciates how the internet and social media have made it so easy to keep in touch and share information – but there is just something about a sincere handwritten note and receiving something in the mail too!

So basically Spiral Sun together with Bubble Town is selling postcards to support some Gawad Kalinga projects here in CamSur.  How Does it Work? You can do two things!

1. BUY A POSTCARD!
The Porta Mariae

A Compilation of the artwork of the first Gurit Kamot workshop

You can buy one (1) postcard for PHP20.00
If you order twenty-five (25) postcards, you get a free Bayani Bracelet made at GK Del Rosario.

2. BUY A POSTCARD AND HAVE IT SENT BY THE POSTCARD PROJECT!

Sending it somewhere in the Philippines? PHP60.00/postcard

Sending it abroad? PHP75.00/postcard

1.) Buy a postcard and have it stamped by your barista at Bubble Town Tea House. She will have you fill up a form too (give your email address and contact number so that we can send you a photo of your postcard, stamped and ready to be mailed at the post office)
2.) Fill up your postcard and drop it off in the mailbox at the store.

Note: Once a week, the postcards will be picked up and brought to the local post office. It takes approximately two weeks for mail to get to the destination.

BY PARTICIPATING IN THE POSTCARD PROJECT, YOU’RE SUPPORTING GURIT KAMOT! CLICK HERE to know more about Gurit Kamot.

Why not surprise your friends and relatives with this Postcard Project? Buy your postcards at Bubble Town Avenue Square and Panganiban Branch.
