Review: Honda BR-V and Honda Mobilio

Drove the Honda BR-V and Mobilio the other week and they are literally like non identical twins on the road in terms of what’s under the hood and performance. Here’s a quick comparison with the two. #NCDdailyDrives 🚘🚗

Both, a 7-seater crossover SUV with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, same power, torque and fuel capacity (42 liters) with CVT.🛣

𝑬𝑿𝑻𝑬𝑹𝑰𝑶𝑹

BR-V looks sporty with a higher ground clearance 201mm that is. R16 tires

Mobilio - pegged as a mini wagon, very family oriented :D, lower ground clearance as compared to BR-V, 189mm, R15 tires.

𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑹𝑰𝑶𝑹

Very identical, dashboard even looks the same. Since the BR-V has a higher ground clearance your road view will be notch higher of course. The basics on the infotainment are there with LCD screen to suit your needs.

𝑺𝑷𝑨𝑪𝑬

Seats at the back can be folded and tumbled. Very versatile which is a basic in most crossover or compact SUVs. You can check our photos during our #BaryaNiJuan mission in Buhi and Nabua.

𝑷𝑹𝑰𝑪𝑬

A little over 1M depending on the variant. Add a few thousands for the RS or Navi (Navigation) feat too.

𝑴𝒚 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆❓Based on my lifestyle and preference on the looks, I would prefer the BR-V over the Mobilio. Always remember that in getting a car, always take into consideration your 𝑩𝑼𝑫𝑮𝑬𝑻 (how high can you go), your 𝑳𝑰𝑭𝑬𝑺𝑻𝒀𝑳𝑬, what will be the most common USE (purpose) of your vehicle?

𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆

Since they have the same engine, the are literally identical too on the feels except that one has a higher ground clearance. Handling is fine for these two cars.

In most instances, this Japanese brand has a higher re-sale value. And you know as they say, Honda is Honda.

Review: Mitsubishi Xpander GLS

The Manual variant on display at the showroom

#NCDdailydrives MPVs are starting to dominate roads nowadays as people realize its versatility and use if we are going to talk about a family car. Seats 7 people with a lot of legroom and functionality especially on the top 2 variants.

Together with Bicol Deck, I got my hands on the GLS variant of the much hyped Mitsubishi Xpander for a quick spin and boy this is better than the first MPV that I have driven from another Japanese brand. Much to be noted in terms of its lightness on the wheel, handling and other extra features while the other car only features the basics.

Actual GLS Variant

With GPS installed
Less blind spot because of this window after the side mirror

For me, the looks has a busy front with boxy headlights (which I least like), then suddenly Mitsubishi lifted its front to the new Strada. At night whenever I see it on the road, I always imagine it as a complete face with brows, lids, full boxy eyes and the fog lamps as the chin. 🤪 It has an L-shaped taillights which I find sleek and decent. It might look as if there’s not enough space from the outside but there’s a lot of room in it both for leg and head space. Access to the third row is impressively easy as the second row seats has a folding and sliding feat. The design is something that will eventually grow on you and what is important is the performance of the car.

Under the hood it has a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The GLS operates on a four-speed automatic. We don’t need a 5 or 6-speed transmission if we are talking about a family MPV right? So the 4-speed will do just fine. The top of the line, GLS Sport has a push button engine start-stop, dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and vehicle stability control.

The reverse cam is becoming a basic now, GPS on the 7-inch touchscreen display are just few of the other features that makes the Xpander a wonder.

You might want to consider this car as your next family MPV. For inquiries you can contact Ms. Aya Onaka at 09088180494 and 09175153811 or visit her FB Page at Mitsubishi Pili/ Albay BEST PROMO DEALS by Aya Onaka

Review: Chevrolet Sail 1.5L LTZ

Sedans are the easily recognizable cars long before there were SUVs, AUVs and many others. Nowadays, huge cars now fill the needs of families when it comes to space and durability. It's now a challenge for many automakers in making sedans as stylish as ever that will still fit the budget of an average-earning Filipino. Not everyone can afford SUVs and here in the Philippines there has been an explosion of sales when it comes to small sedans.

Pili has stepped up a notch when it comes to car showrooms here in Bicol. Chevrolet CamSur in Brgy. San Jose recently had their grand opening sharing to Bicol another American automaker after Ford in Del Rosario, Naga City.

Chevrolet recently launched a new subcompact sedan called the Sail and I got the chance to take the unit for a test drive. Now here are 5 details that I really like about this car that you might probably consider it as well. Remember, finding your perfect car is just like finding the close to perfect partner in a few years of togetherness. Hugot! Haha

First feat that I really appreciated is the rear view reverse camera. Most often than not, SUVs have the reverse camera for obvious reasons. So, the Sail having a reverse cam is definitely a plus for this sedan. All you need to do now is to focus on the 9-inch touch screen, android-powered infotainment system right in the middle of your dashboard.

The Sail may not have a fancy dashboard and exquisite cabin design, but everything you need is there and of course very functional. The top of the line LTZ variant has the standard USB port, center cup holder, steering wheel radio control and Bluetooth Handsfree.

Second would be the 9-inch touchscreen Android-powered Infotainment System with 16GB head unit and Mobile connect with Google Voice Search ready for your travels. For one year you'll get to experience built-in navigational system (Waze) on the unit and have the option to renew it after a year. And oh it also includes Spotify and Google Play Store already. Take note, it's not on your phone but it's on your unit. What's also more exciting is that it has a phone mirroring capability, so even if your are using an iPhone, yes, it can also mirror  what's on your phone, amazing right?! Just don't forget that we are not allowed to use the device when you're on the road because ADDA is in effect.

Dashcam not included :P
If you are the person who plainly listens to music (or news) without having too much consideration about the quality, then the Sail is for you. The LTZ variant has 4 speakers same with the 1.5L AT LT and only 2 speakers for the 1.3L MT LT.

Reverse Sensors and Rear Camera (Just right above the first 3 in the temp. plate)
Chevy's are known for space and we mean tons of space.
Third feat would be the ample head and legroom both in the front and at the back for your passengers.

Just look at the trunk space! Placed my 10L daysack
and umbrella (fully extended) for visualization.

Fourth feat would be the inbuilt sunroof with slide and tilt function. I'm a self-confessed fan of sunroofs! You can tilt it to disperse hot air within the cabin or slide to let fresh air and light in. Perfect for your countryside road trips. Plus, it's a better angle when taking pictures or videos instead of doing it on your windows.

Most of the time, sedans are used for daily transport so it's also important what's under the hood. Engine-wise the 1.5L AT LTZ has responsive transmission with Active Select manual mode for the times requiring complete driver control. From the DOE fuel economy rating, the Sail got an average of 18.26 km / liter for highway driving. Again, fuel consumption depends on the driving habits.

Fifth, she's got the looks! The orange paint job and the contrasting gunmental alloy on the wheels has definitely made the Sail look sporty and curvaceous at the same time. There are no fancy accessories like bumpers, or bulging fenders, nor huge grilles, but the body lines are very stylish. It also has a good looking front with sporty headlamps and foglights which are becoming a norm for all types of car nowadays.

To be honest there's quite a noticeably body roll when driving over a bend or a corner, but hey it's a sedan so we really shouldn't expect much for it to be sporty. I'm used to a light steering wheel. A simple maneuvering back and forth actually felt a bit of a heavy drag when I was trying to park the Sail in front of the building. Perhaps I'm just not used to it.

Took the Sail for quite a speed run over the Partido area, overall I noticed that steering becomes lighter as you pick up speed. Highway running is stable even when confronted with strong winds which will make you feel like your car is floating even in rugged roads.

Black versions or black editions are now becoming an option for buyers. Gone are days for the usual stock in gray or simple silver wheels or accents. Almost every automaker is releasing their black editions or versions.

What's nice are the safety features which are included in all the 3 variants. It includes 2 airbags in front with ABS (Anti-locking braking system) and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution). The Sail also has a speed sensitive door locks which means that if you forgot to lock your doors and when you pick up speed, it will automatically lock itself. There is an anti-theft alarm system, child lock, child restraint and seatbelt reminder too.

Aggressive 16-inch gunmental alloy wheels shod with high performance, low-profile tires for quick road reflexes.
So there, is the Chevrolet Sail for you? Book a test drive now! You have to get to know the car really well and to taking it on a test drive is a must! Visit Chevrolet CamSur at KM 449 National Highway, San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur.

What car do you want to see next? The Colorado, The Spark? or The Trailblazer? I'm drooling over the SUVs and I can't help but imagine taking it for a long drive especially this coming long weekend. Until our next review!!!

Review: Ford Everest 4x2 Titanium with Active Park Assist

Choosing a car is like finding a perfect match that would fit one's character and transportation needs.  If you're on the look out for a mid-size SUV, the all new Ford Everest can definitely be one your options. From the previous boxy and edgy SUV Everest, we have seen it transformed into a muscular SUV with a commanding presence on the road because of its huge front-grille.

This review is but quite limited, focusing only on a few feats from my Ford Island Conquest experience held last June 23-25, 2017 at SM City Naga. Thanks Ford Philippines for including Naga in your series. It was definitely a good way of getting to know your vehicles and most importantly your services to Bicolanos.

Interior wise, cabin is awesome with nice leather seats plus techie infotainment features that you can seamlessly operate. Ford's Sync 3 has a unique feat where you can operate your entertainment hands-free. With the use of Sync, you can play your music, call someone too by just using your voice. Sync can also help you listen to your text messages. How cool is that?! Add up the sunroof for your countryside travels.

The Ford Everest is incredibly light to drive, has great suspension with amazing ground clearance plus water-wading capacity like any other midsize SUVs. With 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine it offers smooth acceleration with impressive power. When I drove the unit during the Ford Island Conquest I was really able to affirm its driving with ease and comfort and it actually feels like driving the smoothness of a sedan but with so much power in it having a 158hp and 385Nm, 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine. I could imagine driving the Everest at the Old Zig Zag Road in Atimonan Quezon, boy I bet the steep and winding roads would be an easy breezy for this SUV.

The 4x2 Titanium variant of the Ford Everest can park itself. We have first seen the Park Assist feat of Ford from their sedan line up, the Focus. Imagine a mid-size SUV parking on it's own, well almost, since you still have to follow instructions after finding a parking spot. It's actually a fun feat of Ford that can definitely assist those who cannot perfectly do PARALLEL PARKING. I have tested the Park Assist feat twice, one at night, with enough space in between two EcoSports and one during daytime where it was more challenging because the parking spot was lessened it terms of space.

All you have to do is follow instructions. Damn this tech is very clever!

Just look at the distance between the two cars. Perfect parallel parking!

Now if you are a newbie driver, it's a must that you be able to do parallel parking without the Active Park Assist feat, but again it's a fun technology that we can actually appreciate. It's really ingenious!

For a more detailed specs on the Ford Everest's performance, capabilities and others head over to the website HERE.

Until our next car review my fellow Bicolanos, let's see what we can drive next.

Review: 7 Fun Things About the Ford EcoSport Titanium (Black Edition)

Naga and CamSur has sure set the bar high when it comes to the number of showrooms of car brands in Bicol. While mostly are in Pili, buyers come from the north to south of Bicol. Full service facilities of the different brands are getting bigger and bigger as they expand in South Luzon.

I'm a self-confessed car person. One of my bucket-list is to actually drive as many different cars as I can. I know I'm not an expert, but the passion to drive has been there ever since I started driving around 15 years ago. If asked which among my licenses would I want to keep, I would gladly keep my driver's license instead lol. Last April 2016, I blogged about how "Getting a Car in Bicol" has been this easy for us Bicolanos. We visited all the different showrooms here in CamSur and for this post I would be featuring the Ford EcoSport Titanium (Black Edition) variant in Red Mars.

Bacon, Sorsogon
As we all know the government has this revised excise taxes to be applied to automobiles divided into different price brackets in the next few months. So getting to know the right car for you is really important.

I always believe no car is better than the other. We get what we pay for. There might be features available in one car and missing on the other. It's difficult to find the "perfect" car and more or less we end up getting the ones that would justify our transportation needs. If a person learns how to love the strengths and flaws of his/her chosen car, it will always serve its purpose no matter what. I do have my favorites per segment of cars though, but of course, we only get what we need and not what we want.

Ford EcoSport 1.5L Titanium Powershift Black Edition
Body Type: Crossover (A crossover or crossover utility vehicle (CUV) is a vehicle built on a car platform and combining, in highly variable degrees, features of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with features from a passenger vehicle)
Transmission: Powershift: 6-Speed Automatic with Select Shift

Now here are the 7 fun things about the Ford EcoSport that would actually be present (some but not all) in the Ambiente and Trend variant too. Named this EcoSport "Q*Bert" because of the color, Red Mars.

1. 200 mm ground clearance and 550 mm water wading capacity. Basically because it's a Crossover type of vehicle. Since I have been driving sedans (Honda City and Ford Fiesta) in the past, I have now appreciated the existence of Crossovers. Though it might cost a little more on your budget, still it's worth it. Less worry on unpaved and rugged roads and perfect for my #ncdtravels.

2. Audio Quality, unique feats and oh the NOISE CANCELLATION. The EcoSport has a standard 6-speaker sound system, it has crisp audio quality with a booming bass that I really like, for me it's a stock that doesn't need any enhancement. Radio, CD, AUX, USB, and Bluetooth functionality for the entertainment system of the EcoSport. As a downside for some perhaps, people are now used to touch screens on their dashboards and the previous models of the EcoSport does not have that. BUT Ford has the SYNC system instead accessible by voice commands. Perfect when making and receiving calls, plus changing and choosing your music is hands free. It's like the Siri version of Microsoft. Touch screens belong to the Everest and Escape line but the next model will now have the touchscreen version already based on the media launch. The EcoSport  has a built-in Digital Signal Processing or DSP. Not only does it optimize the audio levels based on speed, but it can be optimized based on two settings: driver or passenger centric. So if you like your favorite artist singing at the back of your car, just adjust the DSP towards the passengers. The EcoSport has a noise cancellation feat, which is very obvious when you roll up and down the windows. There's also another socket at the rear seat, so your passengers can also charge their gadgets.

The Titanium variant has a lumbar support which is good for our backs especially for drivers.

The Black Edition has roof rails and cross bars ready for racks/carriers just in case you want an additional luggage space for longer travel days.

Check out my latest #NcdFoodTrip (CLICK HERE) post on the way to Albay with Q*Bert

3. Sunroof / Moonroof (Titanium Variant Only). Don't you just love the daylight especially when there's fresh air in your countryside travels? As a blogger, this feat is definitely one of my favorites. Taking photos and videos at this vantage point is clearly an advantage on my end.

4. Speed Limit Warning -  The EcoSport has an instantaneous fuel consumption gauge bar located at the top-most portion of the multi-information display. Since I have my dashcam which also has a speed limit warning, the EcoSports own speed limit warning is really a plus point especially for highway drives. Just scroll through the vehicle settings and set the speed limit thereafter.

5. CompartmentsSSSSS - Fold down the rear sets and you can actually put a 560-liter washing machine inside. The Black Edition will actually make the car look smaller because of the black color accents, but the space of the EcoSport inside is not compromised. There are twenty (20) storage spaces that let's you conveniently pack things away. A slide-out drawer under the front seat keeps valuables safely out of sight. Even your sunglasses and umbrella have their own spaces. Learn the art of keeping and the EcoSport is up for that.

6. Keyless entry. It takes a lot of getting used to. Just a piece of advice, always put the keys near you as much as possible, in your pockets or clasp it on your belt. You can either lock the car using the remote or just by a push of the button on any of the three doors (two front doors and back).

7. Daytime Running Led Lights. The EcoSports front is really iconic, the daytime running led lights just gives it the sporty look. The blue lights inside the car is actually refreshing, not the usual orange or red ones.

Other feats: Aside from the distinctive running lights, the rear view mirror has Auto-Dimming feat that is really helpful at night when the car behind you is on high beam. The front wipers are also rain-sensitive, meaning, the harder the pour of the rain, the faster the wiper. You can also turn it off just in case you want to save a little battery of course. . It's one feature that I also appreciate.

If your not into the Titanium variant, the Trend in Manual Transmission is actually a good option. I would not bother discussing which is better among the AT and MT, again, it will depend on the driver. As for fuel consumption, your DRIVING HABITS is a huge factor to consider. Speeding will always cost you more gas than the usual. The next model of the EcoSport will lose the Exterior Spare Wheel, at the back of my mind it might look like the Ford Escape, but let's see in the next months to come.
