Sityembreakfast, Merienda and Tienda sa Fiesta the Que Pasa Way this September

Naga City - As colorful as the Peñafrancia Festival, a restaurant brings us a delightful breakfast and merienda, the Que Pasa Naga way. You might be wondering if why have I been writing for many times already about this restaurant and if you have read them, I reiterated that this place will be evolving from time to time both aesthetically and gastronomically. True to its evolving nature, Que Pasa brings us daily merienda in the afternoon and Sityembreakfast during weekends this whole month of September. But, during this busy week of the Peñafrancia Festivities and to accommodate fellow Bicolanos and guests going back home, breakfast will also be offered starting September 16 until the 20th.

Breakfast is served from 7:00 am to 10:00 AM

Now what do we have for breakfast? These two are definitely my favorite!
Arroz Con Chocolate aka Champorado and Naldo's Caldo
The Arroz Con Chocolate  P48 topped with Newlook (a kind of dried fish) flakes realllllly complements the sweetness of the champorado. The milk will even make it more enticing.
Naldo's Caldo P38 reminds me of Nald's Goto in Padian St.
But I think this has more flavor, just look at the toppings.
The "I woke up like this" kind of mood for my Bicol Bloggers friends

Coffee is an important pill for the not so morning people. Scrambled Eggs P28 with herbs and rice would be nice just like any typical breakfast. They also serve Breakfast Hotdog with Cheese P48. Having your breakfast at Que Pasa is like eating at your own patio or veranda knowing that the resto is an open area, this you won't get an enclosed restaurant and most especially in fast foods.

They also serve Chilis Dilis P18 which you can also pair with the Arroz Con Chocolate.

Other breakfast goodies available are:
Newlook P28, Salted Eggs P18, Salsa Fresca P15,
Salted Eggs w/ Salsa Fresca P28, Fiesta Logganisa P48,
Chicken Tocino P48, Arroz Con Leche P48

Your afternoon merienda is now covered by Que Pasa this month of September. We Filipinos really give importance to our hungry tummies don't we? Always remember, that when you're in Que Pasa, you should be able to master the art of pairing. Mix and match the dishes that would definitely complement with one another, but hey don't you worry if you're not used to this kind of set up. You can also ask the servers for any recommendations.

Here's my few tips on how I choose my dishes, this is very applicable here in Que Pasa most especially that they do not have sets of value meals like other restaurants.

1. Sweet and Salty - this has been my top of the list in any restaurant.
2. Spicy and Sweet
3. Sour and something hot like bowl foods
4. Sweet and Sour
6. Fatty foods and anything

But of course, you pretty much know your own palate. I can't argue with you of you're own set of pairings.

Que Pasa Merienda is served from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Merienda the Que Pasa Way
Que Blanco P18, suman with caramelized sugar, mango bits and pinipig. This is definitely one of my favorites.
And another personal favorite Baked Longganiza Pasta P48

BananaNut Fritters P28 - Que Pasa's own version of Banana Cue, wrapped banana with peanut butter
as the added filling. It's more than the average size of our usual banana cue.
On the right is the Arroz Con Maiz for only P38, I may not be a fan of corn that much but hey give it a try.

You're in luck if there's still Arroz Con Chocolate during Merienda time. We Filipinos would want champarado as our afternoon snack right?

#TiendaSaFiesta is only available until the 18th of September located near the entrance of Que Pasa. These collectibles are handmade and handcrafted by Bicolano artists, so good and intricate that they can even serve as your souvenir from Bicol. Naga is indeed becoming an artist haven and destination. You can tell by the many artsy shops all around.

Karaw Craftventures is a design hub that up-cycles scrap and waste materials into artisanal products, with brands positioned as handcrafted, sustainable and contemporary. It gives and shows love by combining art enthusiasm with passion to take part in community development advocacy and promotion of environmental sustainability. It aims to empower the marginalized women's groups in Naga City while spurring economic mobility by providing career and training opportunities, capacity building activities, and guidance in financial savings.

So probably this will not be my last post about Que Pasa. There's a lot happening in this restaurant. So stay tuned for more.

Que Pasa Naga

Que Pasa Naga: 360° Instagrammable with Art in All Forms

Naga City - A year ago, the power couple of Bigg's Diner Inc. Sir Carlo and Ma'am Rica Buenaflor had an out of the blue idea of having a barbecue place in the city. It was a light bulb moment of creating something new and revolutionary for Nagueños and Bicolanos. From the prints of Architect GP Priela and concepts of Boyet Abrenica, the long drawn process of creating something for local artists is now the iconic Que Pasa today located along Corner Barlin St. and Iglesia St fronting the Porta Mariae of the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral.

*NEW BLOG POST 16Sep2015*: Sityembreakfast, Merienda and #TiendaSaFiesta at Que Pasa

The location of the restaurant is very significant in Naga's history. The old arch and fences of the property witnessed years and years of scenarios notable to the Roman Catholic Church as it is just right across the "Little Vatican" grounds of Bicol, the seat of the Archdiocese of Caceres.

Community Involvement. From the structure of the restaurant, then came Ben and Pen. The duo Ben Nasayao and Pen Pestrado and other equally talented artists pushed their artistic limits to make Que Pasa look 360° "instagrammable". The progress looked as if it was a creative therapy class for many. Involving the community in establishing a restaurant from rubble to an icon is another first brought by the one of the Best Brands of Bicol, Bigg's Diner. Yes, Que Pasa is another success story after Bigg's. From the branding of Que Pasa to the execution, the collaborative effort of the people involved is really evident to what is Que Pasa today and in the future.

How to order:
  1. Choose your meat: Chicken, Pork, Baby Back Ribs, Tuna.  Remember that you are not limited to one meat.
  2. Choose your sauce: Que Pasa Sauce, Chili Xocolate, Cervesa Negra, Bicol. You can only choose one sauce at a time per meat. My personal favorite would be the Bicol sauce. The sauces give magic to your food, nasa sauce ang sikreto.
  3. Choose your sides: laing, bicol express, pinangat, judias blancas, corn on a cob, grilled veggies, paprika mashed potato, tinutungan mashed potato, mac and cheese. You can order more than one side dish to your heart's desire.
  4. Choose your rice: laing rice, pimenton garlic rice, plain rice

A meal will cost around Php 150 up per person.

Dining Culture. No plate. Only trays with special paper.

Dessert: Leche Flan, Buco Pandan and the Roasted Coconut.

The place is an open area with ceiling fans and lights that complements the structure.

Que Pasa also has a bar. You can order beer and cocktails too.

The most artistic comfort room in the Bicol Region. Personally I would like Que Pasa to claim that title to date. Que Gwapo, Que Gayon and Querebels, the three labels of the comfort room only mean one thing, Que Pasa is gender sensitive and will let you be who you are. All the comfort rooms are distinctive and colorful. As a first timer, chances are you'll even smile while inside the comfort room because the of the available wall art.
No labels yet of Que Gayon, Querebels and Que Gwapo. This was taken during the food tasting.

Borrowing Oh's line from the animated movie Home, "Come in of the outside"
expect that everything is photo ready inside out.

Bicolonial Movement. Food in Que Pasa is fusion Bicol's own with a hint of Spanish and Modern European style. The team experimented on art in all forms. Que Pasa is a haven for artists and the aim is to influence art to the whole Bicolandia. A place where you can share your art and have them on display. A place where you will be inspired to start making your own artworks and a place where you can cultivate your passion. Aside from the visuals and food, Que Pasa will also be a home to performing arts, music and all forms of art.

Progressive Restaurant. Que Pasa's translation to English is basically "What's Up?". Take note that the name of the restaurant means What's Up? It's because you will literally ask Que Pasa if what's up and what's new. In the next few months, a new set of food will be presented. The creative juices of Que Pasa is overflowing and I'm sure there's a lot to watch out for. You can just imagine the progress of the place aesthetically and gastronomically.

Call for Artists. During the blessing, Sir Carlo and Ma'am Rica shared that Que pasa is only 70% done. They are opening the floor to all interested artists to paint on the 7 Portals of Que Pasa (Read more about the Siete Paobras HERE). You can submit your concept to Que Pasa and who knows you will be the Featured Artist for the Month who will paint during dining time and then sign your name on your masterpiece.

C'mon, stop liking the photos of your friends on their timeline, you have to have your own photo of the place. So what are you waiting for? Come visit Que Pasa!

Museo del Seminario Conciliar de Nueva Caceres

with two different collections.

Museo Arqueologico and Museo Ecclesiastico
at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary

Adults: Php 20.00

Question? Can you honestly say that you really know the history of our city? I for one wishes to be re-oriented or be educated by all means about Naga City's colorful past. I got the chance to visit the museum last August 3 and accompanied our office visitors to be toured around our city. Honestly I can't remember if I was really able to enter the museum during my childhood days. What I can remember was that we performed a cultural dance there during my late high school years.

So to speak, I'm just like a first timer ready to learn something about Naga City's past. The facade of the seminary is usually compared to that of Intramuros. It really feels like you are being brought back to the past.

Ma'am Fabi Arejola is the musuem curator. I have always been an eager listener to curators and tour guides just like during my past road trips in other heritage sites especially in Northern Luzon. You can really learn a lot from Ma'am Fabi, it's like listening to bedtime stories.

The ticket

At the Museo Ecclesiastico
This part of the museum is for the religious pieces collected from among the parishes and dioceses of Nueva Caceres.

This is how it looked like before, at least we can say that most of the iconic edifces in this compound is standing strong up until today except for the Archbishop's Palace which is a new one because the old building there was bombed during the ___ period. (sorry i forgot lol)

I really got interested with this figures, so asked Ma'am Fabi to explain more about these stone churches. This proves that we have a deep seated past when it comes to our religion.

My favorite part of the seminary is the Obra Nueva. This is the youngest part of the seminary basically based on it's name "Obra Nueva" meaning New Art, yet still very very old and obviously older than I am.

As a conclusion, the museum is a proof that Bicol's faith is already centuries old and I can also say that Naga City is the "Little Vatican" of the Philippines.

Let's now go to the next museum.. follow the link :)
