Biggs opens it's first stand-alone store in Bicol

Our very own Bicolano brand BIGGS just keeps getting bigger, brighter and better as they soft open their 21st branch & 1st stand-alone store strategically located along the National Highway in San Agustin, Pili, #CamSur! The high ceiling inside the store never gets old in fashion as it also gets the rustic, industrial themed and minimalist look on the outside. The vibe at the entirety still gives that #Biggs original Bicolano feels. A mural of the store also showcases the familial love from  #Biggs beautiful founders Nene Bichara, Nienie Buenaflor, and Maricar Manjon.

Also, look for the portraits near the restroom. It's a nostalgic walkthrough of Biggs iconic stores starting from the old Mang Donald’s up to the radio transistor inspired branch in Magsaysay Avene, Naga. While we celebrate the opening of Biggs Pili San Agustin, we also look forward to many other stand-alone stores here in Bicol in the next months and years to come.

Through the years Bigg’s has been growing with us literally and figuratively. I can’t wait to see what’s in store as they turn 40 by 2023! Congratulations, Biggs! Dios Mabalos for serving us good food since 1983!

Biggs Pili San Agustin will be operating 24 hours

Shell augments relief efforts in CamSur coastal town

What happens to poorest of the poor when hit with a crisis? Everything and everyone slowed down in terms of living when corona virus diseas (Covid-19) started to spread all over the world. Camarines Sur also known for its edge in tourism is not spared from this uncertainties.

Pasacao, a third-class town in Camarines Sur in the Bicol region and around 40 minutes away from Naga city, is home to some 50,000 residents whose main source of income is farming and fishery, and employment at the port and some private firms. Life in a coastal town has become even more difficult for daily wage earners forced to stay home under the enhanced community quarantine imposed to prevent the transmission of #Covid19.

Pasacao is supposed to be full to the brim of excursionists as it is also pegged as the "Summer Capital of Camarines Sur" but the tourism industry is likewise halted to keep everyone safe and secure. There is not much activity at the national port in Pasacao, which is the main point of entry by sea in Camarines Sur and where cargo ships unload their goods. Travel is at a standstill so there are no tourists or even locals to ferry from the Pasacao municipal port to Daruanak island or to the town of San Pascual in Masbate, which hosts numerous white sand island beaches.

“Even if not everyone fully understands COVID-19, all of them have to comply with the lockdown so of course, they are worried about where they are going to get their next meal,” says Pasacao CamSur Mayor Nino A. Tayco.

Movement of farm and fishery products is also difficult to reach markets outside the town, so they are forced to sell these products at a lower cost, Tayco says. Supplies and resources are limited and help takes a long time coming because of their distance from the national and provincial governments.

“Relief assistance is not enough,” says Christopher Imperial, one of 3,800 residents of Barangay Sta. Rosa del Sur in Pasacao. His family has received only five kilos of rice since the declaration of the lockdown.

Thus, he is thankful for companies like Shell that are augmenting the town’s relief assistance by providing enough rice, canned goods, noodles, coffee, and other goods for at least 1,000 indigent families in their barangay.

Pilipinas Shell is one of three oil companies that maintains a depot in Barangay Sta. Rosa del Sur. The Shell Pasacao Terminal remains operational despite the lockdown to continue serving the fuel needs of basic goods and service providers in the Bicol region.

“Even before the lockdown, our community receives support from Shell through their various programs,” said Barangay Sta. Rosa del Sur Chairman Boncodin. These include farm and fishery training, livelihood assistance, educational support for elementary schools, health and nutrition program, road safety training and disaster response.

Pasacao may not have lived its title of being "The Summer Capital of CamSur", but surely the locals and nature itself is healing altogether in this fight against #Covid19

#NCDTravels: Camaligan Floating Restaurant / River Cruise

Just beside Naga City lies a town with significant contribution to Bicol history, Camaligan. Passing through the town’s arch is a marking with the name and a year which is 1775. As we all know, if a place is situated near a river, civilization is almost always existing as it breeds trade and economy. Just recently, Camaligan now embraces a new role in contributing to the tourism industry of the Philippines showcasing the life of the Bicol River, the Camaligan Floating Restaurant and also famously dubbed as Camaligan River Cruise.

As a quick escape from the city life, just around 15 minutes from the Naga City proper is a river cruise that you can immerse in. As a front, the MB Camaligan, is at the same time a floating restaurant that can cater to your events. It’s very ideal for exclusive celebrations for around 40 pax max. There’s no way that the guests can escape from your event.

 You approach the sunset

An old dock, not your everyday view

While you face towards the sunset, look back and you'll also see Mt. Isarog
I’m a visual learner and appreciates a lot what I do not see everyday. As for me, the rate is actually for the natural sounds and sights that you get as you cruise along the river and the food is just an extra. Does the river smell (foul)? No, not really.

You can actually see locals waiting for their boat as their means of transpo of getting to the other side of the river.

Lovely Dusk

MB Camaligan cruises twice, Lunch and Sunset. Now it depends upon your event but the #SunsetCruise IS LIKE NO OTHER. You’ll be lucky to see migratory birds along the way. After your sunset cruise, the Camaligan Boulevard is a relaxing treat near the wharf. Enjoy the lights and soft breeze of air from the river. Walk a little towards the end of the boulevard to the I ❤️ Camaligan sign, you’ll also get to see beautiful bricked edifice which is the old cemetery of the town.

Rive Walk or Camaligan Boulevard at night.

Bicol Bloggers Outreach 2017

All throughout the year we serve fellow Bicolanos online. Last December 23, 2017 (Saturday) and to start a tradition, we took the time to disconnect online to reach the ‘offline’ families of Patitinan and Consocep for Bicol Bloggers #BBChristmas Outreach Tour. Instead of going to usual charity houses, we drove to these two areas and looked for 50 homes and give out joy from the bloggers and most importantly our partners.

Together with one of our collaborator, JCI Naga Inc., we did an ocular visit prior to Saturday to identify remote families whom we can surprise for Christmas. As we draw close to Saturday, additional support came right after another. I was really overwhelmed with the response of my friends and brands who believe in what we are doing.

The trip was of dual purpose, to give out some joy and Christmas surprise and to feature the beauty of Patitinan and Consocep, thus the idea of having the activity as an outreach and a tour at the same time.
It’s diffucult to organize an outreach while having a day job, but with the right people to help you, everything will run smoothly and for this I’m really thankful. When we reached Sagñay, Camarines Sur, the rain was pouring hard, but when we started to deliver the goods, the sun came out until the end of our outreach. It was really a blessed day indeed.

All this is made possible with the help of our major sponsors:

  • Bicol Bloggers Members for our basic grocery packs
  • Chevrolet, Foton, Nissan, Honda and Subaru CamSur of JLo Auto Group - for our sliegh - The Nissan Urvan, Foton Toplander and Chevrolet Sail
  • Atlantic Bakery - for the Chiffon Cakes and Nutri Slice
  • Chef & Baker - for our thanksgiving cakes
  • JCI Naga Inc. and JJC Naga - for the sacks of rice and the collaboration - more please! Doreen for the fruits and Charlton for the pancit canton.
